Eclipse Trader EA Source Code, free MQL source code for MetaTrader

This page gives you the Eclipse Trader EA free source code, the .mq5 file itself and not a compiled robot you have to trust. It pairs a momentum reading with stops that follow the volatility of the moment.

  • Platform: MetaTrader 5, a single .mq5 file
  • Strategy: True Strength Index with stops sized by ATR
  • Price: free, a free account is all you need
  • Licence: study it, edit it and, if you want, rebrand it

How the Eclipse Trader strategy works

The True Strength Index is a double smoothed momentum measure, which means it reacts to a change of direction without the jitter that a raw oscillator shows. Eclipse Trader uses it to decide which way to trade and when momentum has run out.

The ATR does the other half of the job. Instead of a fixed number of pips, the robot calculates the stop and the target from how far price actually moves that week. Consequently the same settings keep working when a pair goes quiet or wakes up, which is exactly where fixed stops usually fail.

What is inside the Eclipse Trader EA free source code file

  • The TSI calculation, with both smoothing periods and the signal line.
  • The ATR block, the period and the multipliers for stop and target.
  • The entry rule, where the robot checks momentum and direction together.
  • The exit, including the trailing that also rides on ATR.
  • Every input with its default value.

How to compile and run it

  1. First, download the .mq5 file from the button at the end of this page.
  2. Then open MetaEditor from MetaTrader 5, with F4 or the editor button.
  3. After that, save the file inside MQL5 and then Experts, and press Compile.
  4. Finally, refresh the Navigator and drag Eclipse Trader onto a chart.
  5. Run it on a demo account first, and read every input before you go live.

If the compiler complains, our guide on compiling MQL source covers the usual causes. In most cases it is simply a missing include or the wrong folder.

What you can change

The two ATR multipliers are where this robot lives or dies. A wider stop survives noise and costs more when it is wrong, a tighter one does the opposite. Change them one at a time and watch what happens on a demo account before you touch the momentum settings.

More robots like this one are in the free EA source code library, and the paid catalogue with documentation and support lives in the MT5 source code section. The idea behind the average true range is explained well on this reference page.

Questions about the Eclipse Trader EA free source code

Which platform is it for? MetaTrader 5.

Why stops based on ATR? Because a stop that ignores volatility is either too tight in a fast market or too wide in a slow one.

Is the file complete? Yes, we remove nothing and we encrypt nothing.

Can I run it on several pairs? Attach it to one chart per pair and give each its own magic number.
